Alex Jones’ Infowars IP Heads to Auction After Judge Approval
SUMMARY
A Houston bankruptcy court has approved the auction of Alex Jones' Infowars intellectual property as part of the liquidation process to address his $1.5 billion defamation judgments related to opinions espoused about the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher M. Lopez granted Chapter 7 trustee Christopher R. Murray the authority to sell assets of Free Speech Systems LLC, Jones’ media company. The sale will include Infowars’ production materials, domain names, social media accounts, product trademarks, and other intellectual property. The bidding deadline is set for November 8, with the auction scheduled for November 13. Additional assets are expected to be auctioned in December. The proceeds will go toward compensating creditors, including the Sandy Hook victims' families. Chris Mattei, representing some of the families, stated the auction moves them closer to accountability. Jones will no longer control Infowars as part of this liquidation.
