Anti-Israel Protesters Gather Outside GWU President’s

oVERTON'S SUMMARY

A group of anti-Israel protesters gathered outside George Washington University (GWU) President Ellen Granberg’s home on Tuesday evening, chanting slogans such as “We the students have the power” and accusing her of being "complicit in genocide." Before marching through the streets, more than 1,000 people gathered at a pro-Palestinian encampment on GWU’s campus to support a rally. Granberg acknowledged the issues as important in a statement to the GWU community but stated that the protest is not a peaceful demonstration protected by the First Amendment or university policies. Instead, she described it as an "illegal and potentially dangerous occupation of GW property" and noted incidents of vandalism and intimidation. The encampment at GWU, established on April 25th, is part of a broader movement of similar protests on college campuses nationwide, demanding universities divest from companies selling technology and weapons to Israel and end academic partnerships with Israel.
