Boeing agrees in principle to deal with DOJ to plead guilty to misleading FAA during 737 MAX evaluation
SUMMARY
Boeing has agreed in principle to a deal with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to plead guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. by misleading the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) during the 737 MAX evaluation. The agreement includes Boeing paying the maximum statutory fine and investing at least $455 million in compliance and safety programs. This deal, not yet finalized, faces opposition from families of the 2018 and 2019 MAX crash victims, who seek to challenge it in court. The crashes, in Indonesia and Ethiopia, killed 346 people. The DOJ plans to file the written plea agreement by July 19th, 2024.
