Boeing cargo plane forced to land at Istanbul without front landing gear

oVERTON'S SUMMARY

A Boeing 767 cargo plane operated by FedEx was forced to make an emergency landing at Istanbul airport on Wednesday due to a failure of its front landing gear. The plane, flying from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, landed safely with the guidance of the control tower and the support of emergency services, which were on standby. There were no reported injuries in the incident, although video footage showed sparks and smoke streaming from the plane's underside as it skidded to a halt on the runway. The runway was temporarily closed, but other runways remained operational. The cause of the landing gear failure is under investigation. This incident adds to Boeing's recent safety challenges, as the company has faced increased scrutiny over a series of safety concerns, including recent allegations of possible failures to conduct mandatory safety inspections on its 787 Dreamliner planes. Boeing has not commented on the Istanbul incident.
