Denver migrants refuse to leave encampment, send mayor list of demands

A group of illegal migrants in Denver is refusing to leave encampments until the city meets their demands. They issued a list of 13 specific requests to Mayor Mike Johnston, including provisions of "fresh, culturally appropriate" food, unlimited shower access, and free immigration lawyers. The migrants also seek employment support, privacy within shelters, and an end to any perceived abuse from staff. They are demanding access to medical services and the ability to cook their own meals with fresh ingredients provided by the city. The encampment is currently located near train tracks and under a bridge and has been there for a few weeks. Denver Human Services aims to move the migrants to more permanent shelters funded by the city and is open to working with them to compromise and help them find suitable paths to success. Mayor Johnston has faced criticism over budget cuts proposed to address the city's migrant crisis. The city of Denver did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
