House GOP goes after 'convicted liar' Michael Cohen, urges Justice Department to investigate recent lies

oVERTON'S SUMMARY

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer are again referring former Trump attorney Michael Cohen to the Justice Department for lying to Congress. In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, the chairmen noted that much of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against former President Donald Trump relies on testimony from Cohen, whom they described as a "repeated liar." The lawmakers previously referred Cohen to the Justice Department in 2019 for making false statements during his congressional testimony. Cohen admitted to lying to Congress during his testimony in a case against Trump in New York. Jordan and Comer are concerned that Cohen’s testimony in Bragg’s prosecution of Trump is based on false statements and may further jeopardize the trial. The lawmakers have urged the Justice Department to investigate Cohen's testimony and take appropriate action. Cohen is expected to testify in the ongoing trial.
