Kamala Harris Retreats in Scramble to Defend Blue States
SUMMARY
Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign is shifting its focus to defending traditionally blue states as former President Donald Trump gains momentum. Following the Democratic National Convention, Harris did not see the typical post-convention bump in the polls, prompting her campaign to change strategies. Instead of planned swing state visits, Harris and her top surrogates, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and her husband Doug Emhoff, are now focusing on blue states. Harris will visit New Hampshire, where her lead is narrow, according to an Emerson College/WHDH survey. Meanwhile, Walz will campaign in Minnesota, where Trump's support has grown, reducing Harris's lead from ten to five points in recent KTSP/SurveyUSA polls. Emhoff will attend a fundraiser in Virginia, another state where Trump has been surprisingly competitive in the 2024 race.
