Meta kills DEI programs
SUMMARY
Meta has announced it will terminate major diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, signaling a shift in the company’s ethos. In a memo obtained by Axios, Vice President of Human Resources Janelle Gale stated that the change was prompted by a shifting legal and policy landscape regarding DEI in the U.S. This includes ending hiring, training, and supplier diversity programs. Meta will also discontinue its "Diverse Slate Approach" to hiring, which ensured a 'diverse' candidate pool, and eliminate representation goals, to avoid the perception of making decisions based on race or gender. The company will instead focus on "fair and consistent practices" to mitigate bias. This follows a broader trend among tech companies, including Walmart and McDonald's, to reassess their DEI efforts. Meta's decision aligns with a shift in corporate culture influenced by the incoming Trump administration, further emphasized by leadership changes and political donations.
