Pakistani man who wanted to carry out 'largest' US attack 'since 9/11' arrested over plot to kill Jews in NYC
SUMMARY
Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a 20-year-old Pakistani national living in Canada, was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Edmonton, Alberta on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, as part of a terrorism investigation led by the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice. Khan, who also goes by Shahzeb Jadoon, is accused of plotting a mass shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn, New York in support of ISIS. Khan had been using encrypted messaging apps since November 2023, unknowingly communicating with undercover officers about forming an ISIS "offline cell" in the U.S. He outlined plans for a "coordinated assault" using AR-style rifles, targeting Jewish communities on October 7 and October 11, coinciding with Yom Kippur and potential protests. Khan stated, "New York is perfect to target Jews," aiming to make the attack the "largest on U.S. soil since 9/11." If convicted, Khan could face up to 20 years in prison.
