Elon Musk in China to discuss enabling full self driving - reports

oVERTON'S SUMMARY

Elon Musk is currently visiting Beijing to discuss the potential implementation of Tesla's Full Self Driving (FSD) feature in China. Musk aims to enable FSD in China and potentially transfer data collected in the country abroad to improve Tesla's algorithms. Although FSD is available in other countries such as the US, it has yet to be introduced in China. Tesla has taken steps to comply with Chinese regulations by setting up a data center in Shanghai to handle consumer data locally. The visit comes amidst concerns over Tesla's autonomous driving features, following a US report linking Tesla's FSD mode to at least 13 crashes, including one death. Critics accuse Musk of promoting the capabilities of autonomous driving to support Tesla's share price, amid challenges such as declining demand for electric vehicles worldwide and increased competition from Chinese manufacturers. Nonetheless, Musk remains optimistic about Tesla's future with plans to reveal the company's robotaxi in August.
