Thousand of Illegal Immigrants With Pounds of Fentanyl Apprehended by Border Patrol

The San Diego border sector has faced a surge of illegal immigration as thousands of illegals from Texas and Arizona make their way to California. During the first 21 days of April, San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents encountered over 25,000 illegal aliens, breaking records for apprehensions. Along with the apprehension of tens of thousands of illegals, Border Patrol agents seized hundreds of pounds of drugs. Chief Border Patrol agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel reported that apprehended individuals were carrying 154 pounds of cocaine, 36.8 pounds of fentanyl, and 238 pounds of methamphetamine. Additionally, according to a statement from Governor Gavin Newsom's office, over a million drugs were seized across the southern border city and the U.S.-Mexico border in one week. From April 15 to 21, the state's National Guard's Counterdrug Task Force, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security confiscated 1.1 million fentanyl pills and 523 pounds of methamphetamine. In previous months, similar drug seizures had taken place at the southern border.
