Victor Davis Hanson Unmasks the War on Family Behind a Disturbing Wave of Anti-Human Attacks

A fertility center was bombed in Palm Springs. One person is dead.

The suspect? A 25-year-old named Guy Bartkus—an abolitionist vegan who believed humans shouldn’t exist.

It’s easy to dismiss this as the act of a lone lunatic. But Victor Davis Hanson says that would be a dangerous mistake.

This wasn’t just violence—it was a nihilistic ideology turned deadly. That ideology, according to Hanson, is spreading fast.

“It really does start among the intellectual class in the universities,”

“It permeates the K-12, it gets in the popular culture.”

It starts in elite classrooms and trickles into TikTok feeds. Anti-human, anti-family ideas disguised as activism.

At first it’s abstract—talk of “degrowth,” climate guilt, and depopulation. But then people like Bartkus take it literally.

“And then people that are unhinged gravitate to it and they think they are going to be rewarded or praised by a lot of people when he they're completely delusional but they're very dangerous people.”

In Hanson’s view, the blame doesn’t just lie with the bombers—but also with the people spreading these ideas, knowing some will act on them.

“The people that are spreading this gospel of zero growth or the planet should belong only to animals, they don't know how that ideology effects certain people and they don't care,”

“In fact they probably enjoy the fact that it is disseminated against a lot of people.”

Once violence becomes an extension of belief, the threshold collapses. Hanson warns we’re already seeing that unfold.

“Again the same phenomena, you lower the bar of what's acceptable and then you think that you're going to be rewarded for acting out this ideology in a violent way.”

And what’s being targeted most?

The family. The idea that having children is good. That building something lasting is meaningful.

That’s why Hanson says it’s time to push back—loudly.

“We need to combat it and say these people are crazy, that there's nothing more natural or beautiful than raising children in the context of a nuclear family.”
